Memorylink and smartBridges in collaboration for live broadcast-quality wireless video demo
SINGAPORE, 14 June, 2005 – U.S.-based Memorylink and Singapore’s smartBridges, are demonstrating the potential of wireless video streaming and Voice over IP (VoIP) at CommunicAsia 2005 - Asia's largest ever communications and IT trade event. The demonstration features Memorylink’s proprietary low-latency video compression technology and smartBridges’ award winning Nexus series of intelligent wireless radios.
The live demonstration can be seen daily from 10:30 a. m. to 6 p. m. at the smartBridges booth (6H3-01, Hall 6) throughout the event which lasts from 14th -17th June here at the Singapore Expo Centre.
Strongbow™, the video compression technology from Memorylink, The Personal Bandwidth Company™, features a proprietary algorithm that produces extremely low latency – as little as 150 milliseconds and yet provides broadcast-quality video and CD-quality audio.
smartBridges, a leading provider of standards-based outdoor wireless networking equipment, is demonstrating three products from the Nexus family – airHaul™, its newest wireless backhaul, airPoint™, access point and airClient™, smartBridges’ Client Premise Device (CPE) – all in conjunction with Strongbow.
The combination of these two technologies provides for high quality video priced at a fraction of the cost of traditional video broadcast technologies. In addition, the versatility inherent with the joining of these technologies paves the way for multiple applications that include private networked video conferencing, wireless surveillance, telemedicine and distance learning, to name just a few.
A typical wireless broadband network will be set up for the purpose of this demonstration, deploying the entire Nexus series of backhaul, access point and client device. Two backhauls, the airHaul Nexus units, will provide the backbone for the network.
At one end, a bandwidth hungry video signal from a DVD player will be compressed or “packetized” by the Strongbow unit and transferred via the backhaul link to the airPoint. The signal from the airPoint will then be received by the client device, airClient and another Strongbow unit decodes the packetized signal so that it can be viewed on the LCD display. The entire process consumes about as much time as it takes for the human eye to blink once.
“Strongbow is optimized for wireless environments so that it delivers up to 30 frames of high-quality video per second, yet with the lowest latency in the industry – a humanly imperceptible 150 milliseconds,” said Timothy Ellsworth, Memorylink Vice President for Sales and Marketing.
In addition to Strongbow’s lower latency, other product features include:
The Intelligent Nexus platform from smartBridges focuses on providing high data throughput over long distances for Near-Line-Of-Sight (NLOS) applications. The Nexus Platform is used to deploy carrier class Wireless Wide Area Networks (WWAN). Based on IEEE 802.11 a/b/g standards, the Nexus family of products provides seamless end to end connectivity ranging from wireless backhauls to access points and end user client devices.
Key features include:
“The versatility and high performance features of the Nexus series make it ideal for a multitude of applications that have enormous potential, such as video streaming for video conferencing or security surveillance. Our products’ easy deployment as well as compatibility with other leading technologies ensure the quick adoption and success of these applications for consumers, governments and enterprises,“ said Santosh Desai, smartBridges’ Vice President for Marketing.
