Memorylink Launches Feature-Rich Strongbow™ For Video Transport Over Wireless Networks
Low latency, low price, high quality are key to Memorylink’s quest for wireless video superiority

SINGAPORE, 14 June, 2005 – Memorylink, The Personal Bandwidth Company™, introduced a new generation of Strongbow™, its high-quality, affordable low-latency solution for video compression and wireless transport, to new markets throughout Asia.
Featuring an array of next-generation innovative product enhancements, the redesigned Strongbow is making its Asian debut here in Hall 1, Stand 1G3-11 at BroadcastAsia 2005 the electronic media technology exhibition held in conjunction with CommunicAsia 2005.

“We’re genuinely excited about this new, feature-rich version of Strongbow because we’ve rebuilt it from the ground up,” said Timothy Ellsworth, Memorylink vice president for sales and marketing. “In our quest to be the best in wireless video, we have spent the many months since Strongbow’s inaugural launch taking the best of the original technology and marrying it with a number of breakthrough enhancements that safely place this product offering well beyond the reach of any competitor,” Ellsworth said.

The redesigned Strongbow is priced US$700 below its predecessor, at US$1,095, and is ready to ship.

“While Strongbow is optimized for wireless environments, including Ethernet radios, its technology provides superior results over cable and fiber as well. Strongbow’s unique design delivers up to 30 frames of high-quality video per second, yet with the lowest latency in the industry – a humanly imperceptible 150 milliseconds,” Ellsworth added.
In addition to the new Strongbow’s lower latency, other product enhancements include:

While video compression and transport technology is not new, near DVD-quality (30 FPS), low-latency video over IP is. Security firms, for example, have deployed video surveillance technology for years, but with low-resolution imagery and slow frame rates, as well as colorless screens of black and white. Strongbow, on the other hand, delivers broadcast-quality images in full color. Strongbow’s bandwidth requirements range from 750 Kbps to 8.5 Mbps, depending on the requirement for frame rate and quality.

GlobovisiÓn, a 24-hour all-news national network television operation in Venezuela, uses Strongbow to feed live news coverage back to its studios and out over its network. GlobovisiÓn personnel use Strongbow technology to move freely about the city of Caracas and its two million people gathering and delivering the day’s news instantly, in real-time, with near DVD-quality video and sound. The Strongbow technology takes the signal directly from the camera and compresses it into Ethernet packets, which provides for high reliability and ease of transport.

At one U.S. commercial airport, Strongbow is already getting rave reviews from field testing that is under way.  Because a portion of the airport is isolated from the rest of the complex, low-latency, broadcast quality video is giving security personnel the “eyes” they need to ensure the safety of both passengers and airport personnel.

Another successful field application involves an East Coast TV station and a cable company that needed a multiple hop and a split signal from a coastal island to the mainland. The local station wanted its signal included on the cable at two different locations. Strongbow solved the problem while saving the station time and money. The TV station now has its signal injected at the two cable head-end locations for delivery to all of the cable customers.
